    You are invited to the Dinner Educational Program "Windows/Sliders:  Steps in Specifying Replacement Windows/SGDs -- It's More Than Just Replacing 'In-Kind'" on Wednesday, October 15th from 6:00 - 8:00pm at Zio Fraedo's in Pleasant Hill.

    When replacing a window and/or a slider, there are many details that need to be considered in order to ensure these replacements meet performance and aesthetic requirements. Rana will review these details, highlighting the pitfalls that often occur in the process of their replacement.

    Learning Objectives:

    At the end of this presentation, attendees will better understand the following

    • possible changes in the amount of light of the new window/slider;
    • the changes in the ventilation the window/slider will provide;
    • the importance of rating - wind/water pressure - and how it affects the performance of the new window/sliders
    • the possible changes to the aesthetic of the window/slider; and,
    • best practices in installation of new windows/sliders -- property tying the window/slider into the existing weather barrier

    “Applying Safeguards in Specifying Innovative New Products”

    Session Description:

    New products and technologies are common in the design and construction industry. These products can help organizations capture the value of advancements in science, engineering, and manufacturing. Yet such innovation can pose significant risks to project stakeholders, where the cost of failures can be enormous. During this symposium session, we will identify types of risks in specifying new products and offer strategies for reducing, avoiding, or allocating risks. We will also illustrate these concepts with case studies of successes and failures.

    After attending this symposium session, participants will be able to:

    • Understand the role and importance of innovation in the built environment;
    • Identify the risks involved in specifying new products;
    • Discuss when new products may be appropriate from a risk/value perspective; and
    • Understand methods of risk management for innovative work.
