Program Description:

Acoustics in multi-family projects is second only to water infiltration issues in the ranking of lawsuits triggers. There are many myths regarding construction details, installation practices and “magical” products with regards to acoustics. Successful outcomes require not just appropriate detailing and specification during design and the use of the correct products, but also attention to detail during construction.

Learning Objectives:

  • Typical detailing for sound and impact isolation, and the limitations inherent in various designs
  • Plumbing and mechanical noise issues and the many ways that proper isolation can (and usually is) compromised
  • Products that work and some that do not, depending on the application (or that would never work, regardless…)
Many photographs will be shown of actual projects illustrating correct (and not-so-correct) installations and tips on how to avoid callbacks by getting it right the first time.
