About This Meeting:
Many factors can contribute to excessive condensation in roof systems installed over wood decks with insulation below - interior RH, roof reflectance, air intrusion, and leaky exhaust vents. Left unchecked, condensation can rust fasteners and decay wood and result in major problems for contractors, especially on reroofing projects. Fortunately, reducing risk is often as simple as making sure exhaust vents are properly terminated/flashed and adding insulation above the deck.
This presentation will use case histories to explain the problem and practical ways to reduce your risk.
a. Review selected building, energy, and mechanical code requirements.
b. Explain how old non-cool roofs helped keep moisture problems at bay.
c. Why wood decks with insulation below tend to accumulate more moisture than wood decks with insulation installed above.
d. Suggest steps roof professionals can take to avoid risk.
