You are invited to the Dinner Educational Program "Protecting the Structure...From Water," on Wednesday, February 15th 2023 from 6:00 - 8:30pm.

Program Description:

Buildings often use control layers, such as air, water, thermal, vapor, or UV, to separate the interior the from the exterior. But what happens when the structure is outside of these control layers? This presentation will focus on how exterior portions of the structure are protected from water, the techniques commonly used to defend against water-based deterioration, and the design aspects of these technical specifications. Specifically, it will cover protection of steel (hot-dip galvanization; electro-galvanization; galvanic corrosion of various materials; stainless properties), wood (pressure treatment vs. preservative treatment; different types of preservatives; APA and AWPA specification types and recommendations; preservative interaction with steel), and concrete (exposure classes; coated rebar; admixtures; electrolysis & cathodic protection).
